Will US Presidential Election be Postponed?
Currently, 15 states have delayed the presidential primary election, and most of them plan to hold it by the end of June.
This raises the important question of whether the November presidential election will be delayed because of it.
According to an 1845 law, the US presidential election is held every four years on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. Which means that in the year 2020, the date of November 3 will be the date of elections.
To change the law, Congress would have to make a new law and get it approved by a majority in the House of Representatives with a majority of the Democratic Party and a Senate with a majority of Republicans.
In addition, even if the voting day is changed, the term of office of a president in the US Constitution can only be four years. In other words, President Donald Trump's first term will in any case end on the afternoon of January 20, 2021.
If re-elected, they will be given another four years. If he loses, he will be replaced by Democrat Joe Biden. But the clock is ticking and the delay in voting cannot stop it.
